Kilconnell Abbey (Irish: Cill Chonaill, meaning "St Conal's church") has presumedly been founded in 1414 by William O'Kelly, Lord of Ui Maine - and also one of my ancestors. The church has now become a cemetery.

Some say that the field around the Abbey contain bones of thousands of Catholic combatants who died in the Battle of Aughrim in 1691. A few artefacts of the Church can still be seen in the Battle of Aughrim  Centre in Aughrim, Co. Galway.
